Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-08-23. No cloud account is required. This policy explains how TrimLayout handles projects saved on your device, shared plans and files, hosting logs, and aggregate analytics at https://trimlayout.com.
Calculator data and projects saved on this device
Calculations run in your browser. Edited projects are saved in IndexedDB, a database on your device, so you can return through My Plans. Stored data includes the project name, wall and opening measurements, design alternatives, material settings, display preferences, and unfinished or invalid input text needed to continue editing. We do not require a cloud account, street address, or house photo, and we do not upload these projects to an account database.
The browser also keeps a recovery checkpoint in sessionStorage while the project is being saved. It can include the same project data and editing status, and supports recovery in that browser tab, including after a refresh. This recovery data is separate from analytics and is not a long-term backup.
You can move a project to the recycle bin, restore it, or delete it permanently through My Plans. Your browser’s site-data controls can remove the site’s stored data. Browser storage limits, private browsing, or clearing site data can also make local projects unavailable. Download a project file for a backup you control. See the browser documentation for IndexedDB storage and sessionStorage.
Share links
The current Share action puts the selected plan, its necessary measurements and unfinished inputs, and assigned materials in the URL fragment—the part after #. It excludes the project name and unrelated alternatives. Opening the link creates a separate copy in the receiving browser; editing that copy does not update the source project.
Anyone who receives the complete link can obtain the included data. A browser does not send the fragment as part of a normal HTTP request, but a complete copied link may still pass through messaging, email, browser, or other services you choose to use. Share only data you intend to disclose, and do not place personal or confidential information in calculator inputs or links. The browser’s fragment behavior does not prevent a recipient from copying or forwarding a complete link.
Project files and other downloads
A downloaded project file contains the complete current project, including its name, alternatives, measurements, material settings, and unfinished inputs. Importing reads the file in your browser and creates a separate local project. The file is not sent to a TrimLayout cloud account. Files, printouts, images, and CSV exports may reveal more information than the selected-plan share link; anyone you give them to can read or redistribute their contents.
Project links and files use the current supported format. Unsupported or damaged data is rejected rather than silently converted. Deleting the local project does not recall links, downloads, messages, or copies already held elsewhere.
Aggregate usage measurement
When configured, we use Umami, a limited, cookie-free usage measurement service, to understand site use and selected actions. It excludes URL search parameters and hashes, runs only on trimlayout.com, and respects browser Do Not Track settings. It may process the page path and title, referrer, browser language, screen size, browser, operating system, device type, and approximate location.
The site can record fixed events, such as viewing calculation methods or opening the Board & Batten worksheet, with permitted categorical or numeric properties. These events are separate from the saved project. We do not create user profiles or send project names, dimensions, prices, email addresses, complete share URLs, query parameters, measurement text, or other free text. Session replay and heatmaps are not used.
Cookies, consent, and retention
TrimLayout uses the functional browser storage described above to save and recover projects. It does not set usage-measurement cookies or use non-essential browser storage for analytics, and the current site does not display an analytics cookie banner. Aggregate usage records are retained for no longer than 12 months and deleted sooner when they are no longer useful for operating and improving the service.
Request logs
The service that delivers the site may process request paths and query parameters, IP address, approximate location, browser information, timestamps, response status, and diagnostic information to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the site. TrimLayout does not copy these request logs into a separate project database.
If you email us, your address, message, attachments, and related delivery information pass through email forwarding and the operator's mailbox so the message can be delivered and answered. Correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond, keep necessary operational or legal records, and resolve disputes.
